Sayward Johnson
Artist
Sayward Johnson explores her curiosity with materials that adhere to the laws of metalsmithing as well as those of textiles and presents traditional textile patterns and techniques in unexpected contexts. She is interested in processes that cannot be controlled, such as oxidization, and investigates the interplay between various mediums.
Johnson holds a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) and is a member of the Enriched Bread Artists (EBA). She has taught workshops in Ontario and Quebec and the Haliburton School of Arts and Design.
Her work has been exhibited across Canada and she has received grants from the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Ottawa, Craft Ontario, OAE and the Canada Council for the Arts.
